Principle 6: Discover the satisfaction factor

Welcome to day 6 of the Intuitive Eating Principles & Practice series! Please continue to share your experience & insights – it’s a wonderful opportunity to learn from each other!⁣⁣

PRINCIPLE 6 DISCOVER THE SATISFACTION FACTOR⁣⁣

The Japanese have the wisdom to promote pleasure as one of their goals of healthy living. In our fury to be thin and healthy, we often overlook one of the most basic gifts of existence – the pleasure and satisfaction that can be found in the eating experience. When you eat what you really want, in an environment that is inviting, the pleasure you derive will be a powerful force in helping you feel satisfied and content. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Diet culture diminishes our quality of life in many ways, and decreased satisfaction in eating is one of them. Eating foods you enjoy and that feels good, is a way to connect with your body more deeply. ⁣Satisfaction is a pleasure-based principle and the hub of Intuitive Eating.⁣
⁣⁣
Aiming for satisfaction helps you find a way of eating that tastes and feels best in your unique body – this is not a one-size-fits-all process, it is a path of self-connection and discovery! ⁣⁣

THE PRACTICE ⁣

To practice this principle, I invite you to ask yourself: ⁣What do I really want to eat? Think about flavors, textures, aromas, and appearance. Do you want savory, salty, sweet, buttery, rich, bitter, tart, smoky, hot and spicy, bland, or mild? ⁣What food would hit the spot at this moment?⁣ How do I want to feel when I finish eating?⁣⁣

  • Reflect on your favorite foods, dining companions, and places to eat. What types of eating experiences are most satisfying? How can you incorporate more satisfaction into your regular routine? These are valuable questions to reflect upon no matter where you are in your Intuitive Eating journey!⁣⁣
  • If you’ve mastered this principle for the most part, please share an aha moment.⁣⁣
