Choosing an Omega-3 Supplement: Dose & Cost Effectiveness

Choosing an omega-3 supplement can be really confusing.  There is no standard dose, and the prices vary tremendously.  One important factor to look for is the amount of EPA and DHA provided. These are the key omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish. Many experts recommend getting at least 650 milligrams/day of these key omega-3 fats.

I created this Omega-3 Supplement widget (below) to help evaluate the cost of omega-3 supplements per dose. For the price comparison dose, I used 800 milligrams (of EPA + DHA combined), because it's about what you get in one prescription capsule of Lovaza. Compare the price you paid to the brands listed below.  (You can sort the columns, just like a data spread sheet).
